Dear Resident,
On behalf of the village, a very warm welcome to your new home in St Fillans. We have put together this information pack to help you settle into village life, and we hope you find it both helpful and informative.
There are many activities and groups within the village that you may wish to get invovled in – click here for a full list. If anything interests you, please do get in touch – someone will be happy to introduce you. All of our groups are keen to welcome new members, whether you are continuing a long-standing interest or trying something new. You’ll quickly discover that St Fillans is a friendly and welcoming comminuty.
Many village events take place in Sandison Hall, located behind the Achray House Hotel. The hall was generously donated to the village and is managed by a trust for community use. It is particularly busy during the winter months and is also available for private hire at a small cost. Larger outdoor events, such as the Village Festive Weekend and Bonfire Night, are held on the Village Playing Field, next to the play park at the end of Shoemaker’s Lane, opposite the village phone box.
Dundurn Parish Church (Church of Scotland) has an active congregation. Services are held in St Fillans on the first Sunday of each month at 10:30am, with services on other Sundays taking place at Comrie Parish Church at the same time. For more information, please contact Elma Brierley, Session Clerk, on 01764 670688.
The Golf Club plays an important role in village life, and information about joining can be found here. While there are no tennis or squash facilities in the village, nearby Strathearn Community Campus in Crieff offers a wide range of sports and fitness facilities, including a swimming pool, gym, squash courts, and exercise classes. Contact details for the campus, along with the local library and high school, can be found here.
For everyday services such as a doctor, dentist, pharmacy, post office, butcher, greengrocer, bakery, deli, and pet shop, residents typically visit nearby Comrie. The nearest veterinary practice, along with supermarkets including Aldi and Co-op, can be found in Crieff.
St Fillans has two hotels: The Four Seasons Hotel and The Achray House Hotel, both offering restaurant and bar facilities. As opening times can vary, please check their websites or call ahead before visiting. The Golf Club is also open to non-members for catering during the summer months, from 9:00am to 5:00pm.
We are fortunate to have an active Garden and Nature Group, whose members work hard to keep St Fillans looking its best through projects such as maintaining the riverside, planting, and litter-picking. The Nature Group is a newer initiative and continues to expand its activities.
A copy of the village telephone directory can be found here. The access passcode is 200Anniversary.
St Fillans has an active Community Council, made up of four elected members. The Council represents local interests, acting as a link between residents and official bodies, and provides updates at public meetings held every three months.
In addition, the Community Trust, established in 2008, organises events to raise funds for village projects. These include the Festive Weekend in August, Bonfire Night celebrations, a Hogmanay party, and a Burns’ Night supper—all well-attended and enjoyable occasions. Announcements about these events are shared via the Village Reach Out WhatsApp group, email, and the village Facebook page.
As you can see, while St Fillans may appear to be a peaceful village, there is always plenty happening.
Once again, welcome—and we hope you enjoy living here.
The Community Council.
